Your account

You need an account to save progress or buy a course. Keep your sign-in details to yourself: anything done through your account is treated as done by you. Give us an address you can actually receive mail at, because it is how we would reach you about a purchase.

One account is for one person. Sharing an account so that several people can read a course bought once is not permitted.

Free access for Glendale Unified

Every course is free, for as long as we run the service, to anyone signing in with a Glendale Unified School District email address. That access is tied to the address, not to you personally: if you stop being able to sign in with a district address, the free access stops with it. Nothing you have separately paid for is affected.

District accounts must sign in with Google. We do not accept password sign-up on district addresses, because free access rests on the address being genuinely yours.

Buying a course

Courses are sold individually for a one-time payment. Buying a course gives you a personal, non-transferable right to read it and use its exercises for as long as we run the service. It is not a subscription and it does not renew.

Prices are shown before you pay and are in US dollars. Payment is handled by Stripe; your card details go to Stripe and not to us. We may change prices at any time, but never for a course you have already bought.

The opening section of every course is free to read without buying anything, so you can see the writing before you decide.

Refunds

If a course is not what you expected, write to theomirzakhanian@gmail.com within 14 days of buying it and we will refund you in full. You do not need to give a reason. We may decline a refund where an account has clearly worked through most of a course, or where the same person repeatedly buys and refunds.

If we withdraw a course you have bought, or the service closes, we will refund a recent purchase.

What you may and may not do

• Read the courses, do the exercises, and keep whatever you learn. That is the point.
• Do not republish, resell, or redistribute course material, in whole or in part.
• Do not scrape or bulk-download the courses, or use them to train a model.
• Do not share an account, or resell access to one.
• Do not attempt to reach content you have not paid for, or to interfere with the service or with other people's use of it.

Running code

Courses let you run programs you write, in an isolated virtual machine we provide. Use it for the exercises. Do not use it to attack anything, to mine cryptocurrency, to host a service, or to do anything illegal. Runs are time-limited and we may limit or withdraw access to code execution if it is being abused.

Code you write is yours. By running it here you allow us to execute it for the purpose of giving you its output, and nothing more.

Who owns what

The courses, the exercises, the problem sets, and the site itself belong to us. Your right to use them is the one described above. Anything you write — your code, your answers — remains yours.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may take it down for maintenance, change how courses are organised, or correct and revise material. Course content is educational; we take accuracy seriously and check it, but we do not guarantee that everything is free of error, and nothing here is professional advice.

Ending it

You can stop using Compendia at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for example one sharing paid material — and where we close an account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund a recent purchase.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Compendia is provided as it is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where we are liable, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and a material change will be announced on the site rather than made quietly. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, and the courts of California will hear any dispute — except where the law of the place you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
